Berry, almond, and oat smoothie

Even though I make an attempt to mix up my food, the only thing I actually enjoy for breakfast is fruit and yoghurt. I typically have these Grab-and-Go Oatmeal Cups for breakfast during the week.

But even animals of habit need a change now and then, so I started experimenting with a small adjustment to some of my favourite dishes and came up with this Strawberry Oat Smoothie. It has recently put on a strong performance, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

Why This Smoothie Makes a Great Breakfast

Ten arguments follow for why it qualifies for me:

  • It happens quickly.
  • It’s simple.
  • It is wholesome.
  • The ingredients are always in my pantry and freezer.
  • It contains no added sugar.
  • It meets my needs for fruit and yoghurt.
  • I can have breakfast while driving.
  • It satisfies.
  • It’s incredibly fruity and energising.
  • The ingredients can be packaged into little sachets and frozen.
  • A FREEBIE (Number 11): Even though it’s grey outside, it reminds me of summer and sunny days.

Which Oats Make the Best Smoothies?

Because oatmeal has so much soluble and insoluble fibre, along with the added benefit of minerals, it makes this smoothie particularly full.

The nicest texture in this smoothie comes from uncooked old-fashioned rolled oats, although steel-cut oats can also be used if you don’t mind a rougher texture. Oats that cook quickly are OK as well, but be sure they don’t contain any additives. The addition of oats and frozen fruit also adds to the thickness of this smoothie.

Smoothies: Dairy vs. Nondairy

I use yoghurt in this smoothie because I don’t have any issues with dairy, but if you do, you could use almond milk instead.

If your smoothie isn’t tart enough for you, add a few drops of lemon or lime juice to mimic the tanginess of the yoghurt. Any other non-dairy milk or yoghurt will work equally well in this recipe.

The Ideal Sweetening and Flavoring Method for Smoothies

Because everyone has different tastes (my tastes are quite simple, don’t judge), smoothies are a fantastic morning alternative. Everyone can modify the recipe to fit their personal preferences.

A few banana slices add flavour and aid in achieving a creamy texture.
If you prefer it extremely sweet, add a teaspoon of honey or agave.
Add sweetened almond milk or yoghurt to start out sweet.
A little pure almond extract will go a long way to enhancing the flavour.
Drops of vanilla extract should be added.
A spoonful of almond butter can be added to increase the protein content.
