Notes and Tips for Classic American Pancakes Recipe

  • For thicker, fluffier pancakes, use normal flour instead of self-rising flour and add baking powder.
  • To increase the flavour and texture of the pancakes, add melted butter to the batter.
  • If you choose, you may replace the white flour with whole wheat or spelt flour.
  • Pour a ladleful of batter into the centre of a heated pan and let it stream outward without moving the pan if you want perfectly round pancakes.
  • Only flip pancakes when the edges are dry and most of the bubbles have burst. (As an example, see the image above.)
  • This is a basic recipe to which you may add a variety of components to customise it. Chocolate chips, blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries will elevate it to a new level of deliciousness.

  1. In a large mixing basin, combine the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  2. Mix in half of the flour mixture, then add the remainder of the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Mix well until no lumps remain.
  3. Melt the butter in the microwave and sprinkle it over the batter, stirring to incorporate. Allow the batter to sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Heat 1 tsp oil in a nonstick frying pan over medium heat, then distribute it evenly with a paper towel or a brush.
  5. Pour a ladle of pancake batter into the center of the frying pan and spread it outward to produce a circular pancake.
  6. Cook for about 3 minutes, or until the edges are dry and most of the bubbles on the surface of the pancakes explode, then flip and cook for another couple of minutes.
  7. Repeat until all of the batters is gone. (Add extra oil to the pan between the second and third pancakes.)
