My favorite method is to roll the cookie dough in nonpareil sprinkles or sugar pearls. The cookies are softer without the sprinkles in the dough and have smaller sprinkles on the exterior. The larger the sprinkles, the more crunch your cookie will have.

But all of these work – sprinkles only in the dough, sprinkles alone on the exterior, or sprinkles both in the dough and on the outside. If you wish to fold sprinkles into the dough, I recommend using the longer jimmies type sprinkles, as the shorter jimmies style sprinkles will fall apart.

How to Make the Best Sprinkle Sugar Cookies

Accurately measure the ingredients: This is especially important for the flour. A food scale is the most accurate tool to ensure that you are not over-measuring. Even a tiny bit of extra flour might have an impact on how smoothly your cookies spread.
Avoid Overbaking: These cookies should be delicate and chewy. They will become too hard if you overbake them. When you take the cookies out of the oven, the center should be soft and fluffy.
Immediately roll the dough in sprinkles: If you want to cover each individual cookie with sprinkles, do so as soon as you finish preparing the batter and shaping the dough balls. If you wait too long, the sprinkles will not adhere as effectively to the dough, Sprinkle Sugar Cookies Recipe.

How to Keep These Cookies Safe?

Cookies should be stored in an airtight container. They do not need to be refrigerated. Your cookies will survive for 4-5 days if you keep them in a cool, dry area.

Directions:

  • Set aside the flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium mixing dish. Cream together butter, oil, sugar, and confectioners sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment until frothy, about 3 minutes. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract. Mix in the dry ingredients until the dough comes together. The dough will be extremely soft, so cover it in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
  • Coat each ball with sprinkles before placing it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the cookies for 20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Allow for 5 minutes of cooling before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Yes, the sprinkle sugar cookie dough must be refrigerated, but just for 15-20 minutes. Chill the dough before rolling it into balls like a pro tip.
