Sugar Cookies

Cookies, along with pies and pudding, are my absolute weakness. To be honest, I prefer soft cookies, either gooey or with delights packed within, to crispy cookies. One exception is a sugar cookie, which I like soft or crispy, iced or plain. But I never seem to have the time or patience to manufacture them.

Typically, sugar cookie dough must be divided, chilled for several hours, rolled out, shaped, scraps re-rolled, and so on. Is it worth it for a flawless sugar cookie? What if I told you that you could make absolutely delicious sugar cookies in less than an hour with only three ingredients? Isn’t it thrilling?! Sugar Cookies Recipe Easy.

  • To make the dough, cream together the butter, sugar, and flour until smooth.
  • Form the dough into 1-inch balls to make the cookies. Roll the sugar balls in a glass or measuring cup, then flatten them.

Recipe Tips

  • Use a cookie scoop: Using a tiny cookie scoop for simplicity and consistency ensures that all cookies cook at the same rate.
  • The thickness is important: When the raw dough balls are flattened, they should be between 1/8-1/4 inch thick, or 3/16 inch to be accurate. (They will appear little in diameter, but will spread to the size of a conventional cookie.)
  • Allow gap between Because cookie dough spreads when baking, it should be positioned at least 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet.
  • Because these cookies are delicate at first, they should be left on the cookie sheet for at least 10-15 minutes before being moved to cool fully. They are, nevertheless, strong once chilled.

Recipe Notes

Can you use this recipe to make cut-out cookies? No, unfortunately. Because there are no eggs in the recipe, the dough does not bond well enough, and the cookies may crumble when cut with a cookie cutter.
Is it possible to frost these? Yes, you may frost them with royal frosting or drizzle them with plain icing. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until the desired consistency is reached. Drizzle and put aside.

Decorate with sprinkles or nonpareils: Before baking, lightly press some sprinkles or nonpareils onto the cookies.

Tips for Making Sugar Cookies

  • Allow butter to soften at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours. When I’m in a rush, I still use the microwave softening approach (cook 3 seconds per side, rotate stick of butter to next side, and repeat until butter is soft but not melted).
  • For high altitudes, I recommend adding a little additional flour (2 2/3 cups total) or chilling the dough for 30 to 60 minutes before baking to help the cookies spread less.
  • If you do not have a stand mixer, a hand mixer will suffice. If the dough becomes too heavy as you add the flour, whisk in the remaining flour by hand with a wooden spoon.

Possible Variations

  • The cookies can be topped with chocolate chips.
  • Before baking, sprinkle with multicolored sugar sprinkles.
  • Add 1/2 teaspoon almond extract for added taste.
  • If you like, try them with chopped nuts. Pecans and walnuts are both excellent alternatives.
  • If you want them less sweet, reduce the sugar by 1/4 cup; however, lowering the sugar by any more than that can change the texture and spread of the cookies, Sugar Cookies Recipe Easy, frosted sugar cookies.
